George Hartsfield and Joann McCurter

George Hartsfield grew up on a farm near Malden, Missouri, the youngest of eight children. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southeast Missouri State University in 1965, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with majors in History and Political Science. During the 1963-64 academic year, he served as Student Body President. Upon graduation he was hired by Southwestern Bell in their management trainee program.

After spending four years with the Southwestern Bell System, Hartsfield relocated to Jefferson City where he held several management positions with the United Telephone Company. From 1991 until his retirement in 2009, he served as the President/CEO of the local YMCA. From 1979 until 1987, Hartsfield was the mayor of Jefferson City. He and his wife, Paula, have one daughter and two grandchildren. George and Paula both enjoy reading, volunteer work, and travel.

Joann (Hartsfield) McCurter graduated from the Clarkton, Missouri High School. She and her husband, Bo, reside in Malden where they have operated several small businesses. She has been, and remains, active in city and county politics. She can be found working at the polls every election. From 1970 until 1975, she served as the Collector for the city of Malden. From 1989 until 1995, Mrs. McCurter held the position of Collector for Cotton Hill Township.

The McCurters have one daughter, a grandson, and a great-grandson. Mrs. McCurter enjoys taking care of great-grandson Keaton and managing their rental property.
