Frances Daniel

Frances Elizabeth Daniel was born December 12, 1912, in Scott County, Missouri but lived her life in Charleston, Missouri. Miss Daniel attended Charleston High School where she graduated as Valedictorian. Miss Daniel then attended Central Methodist College and Swinney Conservatory at Fayette, Missouri, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree. She later attended the Julliard School of Music in New York, New York.

When Miss Daniel’s father (the late Ollie F. Daniel) died in 1937, she assumed the management of their family’s farm and her father’s general insurance agency, which she successfully operated for the next 46 years. This was truly an achievement for a woman to own and operate a business in the 1930s.

Miss Daniel believed in “doing business at home” and she made every effort to support her community. Miss Daniel was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, having held all offices of said club. She was a member of the Athena Club, served on the board of the Chamber of Commerce, and was chosen Honorary Woman of the Year in 1969. She traveled extensively in Europe, the Far East, and in most of the United States. She was always happy, however, to return to her beloved home town of Charleston, Missouri.
