Dr. Gary Johnson

Gary G. Johnson, Ph.D., has been a faculty member at Southeast Missouri State University since 1982. He has served as associate dean of the Harrison College of Business since 2006. He holds the rank of professor in accounting. His principal areas of teaching and research are forensic accounting, auditing, information systems and international accounting. He has been recognized three times for the college’s most prestigious award: twice as faculty fellow in teaching and once as faculty fellow in research. In 1998, Dr. Johnson was recognized by the Missouri Society of CPAs as “Accounting Educator of the Year.” During his tenure at Southeast, Dr. Johnson has served his department, college, and university on numerous committees and task forces. He has over 40 journal publications and is co-author of an accounting textbook. In addition to his accomplishments as an educator, administrator, and researcher, Dr. Johnson holds the following certifications: Certified Public Accountant (1984), Certified Management Accountant (1985), and Certified Government Financial Manager (1997). Dr. Johnson served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Missouri Society of CPAs in 2004, becoming only the second educator selected to that position in the 98 year history of the Society. The MSCPA is the principal professional organization for CPAs in Missouri with over 8,000 members. Dr. Johnson has represented the college in overseas assignments to The Netherlands, Denmark, China, and Uruguay. He is also past president of two academic accounting organizations: the North American Accounting Society (2003-2004) and the Missouri Association of Accounting Educators (1995-96). Dr. Johnson is married to Mary Moore Johnson, JD, MBA, professor of business law.
