C.D. and Anna E. Butler

The C. D. and Anna E. Butler Scholarship was established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. C.D. and Anna E. Butler were inspirational figures to many people in Missouri, especially in Commerce, Senath, and Sikeston, as well as in the St. Louis and Jefferson City areas. C. D. grew up in Cape Girardeau and Sikeston and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Southeast in 1948 after serving in the China Burma Theater during World War II. He attended Southwestern Theological Seminary and was ordained a Baptist minister in Commerce. Anna received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (Voice) from Southwest Louisiana University and a Masters of Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary. In 1976, she earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching (Music) from Southeast. She was an accomplished vocalist and school teacher, and several of her private voice students won national recognition.

Phil (’72) and Steve (’78) feel a strong connection to Southeast Missouri and are especially grateful for the education they received at Southeast. Phil currently lives at Lake Anna in Spotsylvania County in Virginia. Steve and his wife, Cheryl (’79), currently live in Tierra Verde, Florida.
