Brian M. Shamel

The Brian M. Shamel Memorial Scholarship Fund is for students who are interested in pursuing the research and saving of the bottlenose dolphins. This scholarship fund based on financial need may be used by students to help fund their trip to the research lab that helps meet the requirements for the marine biology degree. This scholarship was set up by family and friends in memory of Brian M. Shamel. Brian, born in Mansfield, Ohio, was a student at Southeast Missouri State University majoring in marine biology. He was a friend to everyone, and his interests included free-style biking, karate, animals, and music. He also played the trumpet. As Brian grew older, he became interested in marine biology, particularly bottlenose dolphins. He raised all sorts of exotic fish. Brian was a Christian and loved the Lord. He was killed in an automobile accident on January 4, 1997. Brian will be missed by his family, friends and the many other lives that he touched over the years.
